Hemoencephalography (HEG)

HEG is a form of biofeedback that improves cognitive performance by increasing cortical blood flow. HEG has been used extensively with Autism Spectrum Disorders and has  also been helpful with other conditions including  traumatic head injuries, migraine headaches, schizophrenia and post stroke related conditions. By increasing blood flow HEG works to improve the metabolic activity of the brain which leads to higher levels of cognitive functioning.

HEG is very easy to do. A sensor is placed on the head which records infra red emissions. The data from this sensor is used to control a DVD/CD player which presents a movie for the client to watch. In order to keep the movie playing the trainee must remain focused and keep their infra red signature rising.

Following an HEG session trainees usually report feeling "mellow" but clear headed.    Results are cumulative as the brain metabolism gradually adjusts to functioning at a higher level of efficacy.

The following are images which show the improvement in blood flow before and after an HEG session :

In the first image the forehead is dark indicating reduced blood flow. This corresponds to a reduction in irritability and outbursts of anger which were part of the presenting symptoms.

In the second image the forehead and eyebrow area is noticeably lighter indicating increased blood flow

a great sense of emotional balance.

I have found that combining HEG and the P Roshi produces an faster increase in cortical blood flow and adds to the treatment effect. HEG can also be used in conjunction with the Activated Air System to improvement oxygen utilization while stimulating increased cortical blood flow.
